CARDBOARDFILE
non-sport / 1977 Topps Star Wars Series 1 / 58
Four PSA 10s have sold, all four at the same auction house. The figure went from $7,200 to $18,910 in a little over a year.
Four PSA 10 sales of card 58 are on record. They are four different certificates, so four different cards, and every one of them sold at Heritage.
In order: $7,500 in November 2023, $7,200 in October 2024, $18,910 in October 2025 and $18,125 in May 2026.
The first two sit within four per cent of each other. Then the figure roughly two and a half times over, 387 days after the October 2024 result, and the May 2026 sale came in close to the new level rather than the old one.
Four sales out of fourteen copies in existence. For a card at this grade that is an unusually complete picture - 29 per cent of the whole gem population has changed hands in public.
Series 1 runs to 66 cards and nearly all of them carry a scene caption. Cards 57 to 60 do something different and name the people instead: Mark Hamill As Luke Skywalker, Harrison Ford As Han Solo, Alec Guinness As Ben Kenobi, Peter Cushing As Grand Moff Tarkin.
Four cards, consecutive numbers, printed on the same sheets in the same run. Their populations are not remotely alike.
The submission counts run in the order you would guess from the billing. Ford is the most-graded card of the four and Cushing the least, by a factor of two and a half.
The gem rates do not follow. Guinness has the fewest copies graded of the top three and the highest gem rate by a comfortable margin - twice Ford's. That is the pattern this site keeps running into: the more a card gets submitted, the more marginal copies go in with it, and the rate measures the submitting as much as the printing.
PSA has graded 1,478 copies of card 58 and 14 are PSA 10 - a gem rate of 0.95 per cent.
Across the 66 cards of Series 1 the rate is 2.33 per cent, so this card is about two and a half times harder than the series it sits in. It is not the hardest. Card 1, Luke Skywalker, gems at 0.17 per cent from 5,252 copies, and the Vader at 0.31 per cent.
The population stacks up in the middle of the ladder rather than at the top: 331 copies at PSA 7, 318 at 6, 287 at 8, 215 at 5. Only 69 copies have reached 9.
Beckett has recorded 32 copies of this card. SGC has 198. CGC has 95.
None of the three has ever awarded it a ten. Not a Black Label, not a Pristine, not a plain ten. SGC's best is a single 9. CGC's best is an 8.5, of which it has seven.
So of the fourteen tens recorded anywhere across four companies, fourteen are in PSA holders. Every previous card on this site has come close to that; this is the first one where it is all of them. The shape is set out across eight cards in what a published gem rate actually counts.
Two pairs on this card happen to be close enough together in time to read as a comparison rather than a guess.
A PSA 8 sold at Goldin on 25 May 2023 for $240. A PSA 7 sold at Goldin on 1 June 2023 for $47. Seven days apart, same house, one grade between them, and five times the money.
The other pair crosses labels rather than grades. A CGC 8 sold at Fanatics Collect on 2 August 2026 for $360. A PSA 8 sold at Fanatics Collect on 26 September 2026 for $1,000. Fifty-five days apart, same house, the same number on the label, and nearly three times the money. An earlier CGC 8 made $164 at Heritage in April 2026 against $580 for a PSA 8 at Goldin in June.
For the step into the top grade: a PSA 9 made $810 in July 2024 and a PSA 10 made $7,200 that October, 74 days later. Just under nine times, for one grade.
The highest PSA 8 figure on this page, $1,000 in September 2026, is more than either recorded PSA 9 - $810 in July 2024 and $750 in November 2022.
That is not the market paying more for a lower grade. It is a two-year gap doing what a two-year gap does on this card, and the same two years in which the gem figure went from $7,200 to $18,910. There is no PSA 9 sale on record from 2025 or 2026 to compare against.
It is worth stating plainly because a table sorted by price rather than by date makes it look like an inversion. Read the dates first.
A PSA 5 made $79 in August 2026. A PSA 4 made $40 in July 2024. PSA 3s made $16 in June 2023 and $8 that September.
There are 1,478 graded copies of this card and 1,464 of them are 9 or below. The money on this page is concentrated in fourteen of them.
All seventeen sales here are auction results. Every figure includes the buyer's premium.
Certificate numbers were recorded for eight of them, including all four of the gem sales, which is how we know the four are four separate cards rather than one copy going round. Two of those certificates were read from the slab in the lot photograph rather than from the lot description.
The photographs on this page come from the Fanatics Collect weekly auction lot of 22 July 2024 - a PSA 9, certificate 25547141, which drew 22 bids and sold for $810.

dated past results, not an estimate of what a copy is worth today. figures published by an auction house normally include the buyer's premium, so they are more than the seller received.
This set has two Han Solo cards and they are not interchangeable. Card 4 is Space Pirate Han Solo, the scene card, and card 58 is this one, the portrait that names Harrison Ford. Card 4 has sold at $47,580 in PSA 10 and this one at $18,910. Check the number before the price.
The four actor cards run 57 to 60 and are easy to mix up in a listing photograph. Confirm the slab reads 58 and the caption reads Harrison Ford As Han Solo.
PSA 7 at 331 copies and PSA 6 at 318 are where this card is affordable. Recorded sales run $24 to $47 at 7 and $8 to $16 at 3.
PSA 8 is the step where the money starts: recorded at $240 in 2023 and $580 to $1,000 in 2026.
PSA 10 is fourteen copies and four public sales, all at the same house. Two of those four are from 2023 and 2024 at around $7,000 and two are from 2025 and 2026 at around $18,000. Know which pair you are reading before you use one as a reference.
If you want this card in a ten it is PSA or nothing. Beckett, SGC and CGC have 325 copies between them and not one is a ten.
A CGC 8 has sold at $164 and $360 against $580 and $1,000 for PSA 8s in the same months. The number on the label is the same; the price is not.
find one on ebayRead the blue border on all four edges. Series 1 is the blue-bordered run and the colour goes right to the trim, so every chip and every soft corner shows as white.
Check centring on both sides. The 1977 cards were cut on fast equipment and the borders are wide enough that a small drift is obvious.
Look along the surface under angled light for print snow and gloss loss. With 331 copies at 7 and only 69 at 9, surface is usually what decides which side of that gap a copy lands on.
Check the back for gum residue and wax staining. These came out of wax packs with a stick of gum against the stack.
Confirm the number is 58 and the caption names Harrison Ford. Cards 57, 59 and 60 are the same style of portrait card and card 4 is the other Han Solo.
Read the label for a qualifier before you read the grade. 28 of the recorded copies of this card carry one, and 13 of those sit at the 8 level.
