Chris Mullin is the seventh hardest card in this set to find in PSA 10, and the sixth of the seven hardest belongs to a player people actually collect.

PSA has graded 6,222 copies of card 77 and 112 are PSA 10 - a gem rate of 1.80 per cent. Of the 133 cards PSA lists for the set, only six gem less often: the Jordan at 1.19, the Wilkins at 1.20, the Bird at 1.50, the Moore at 1.54, the Kareem at 1.59 and the Ewing at 1.63.

Mullin sits at 77, directly beside the Johnny Moore at 76. Two adjacent numbers, both in the seven hardest cards of the set, and one of them is a Warriors Hall of Famer while the other is a Spurs guard nobody chases.

Who he was

Golden State took Mullin seventh overall in 1985, out of St John's, where he had won the Wooden Award. He made five All-Star teams, scored more than 17,000 points, and was one of the five Warriors in the run-and-gun teams Don Nelson built.

He was also on the 1992 Dream Team, which is the line that matters for a card. Of the twelve men on that roster, Mullin is among the least discussed and the card market reflects it.

The population is the usual shape for this set. It piles up at PSA 8 with 2,774 copies and PSA 7 with 1,494, then falls away sharply - 984 at 9 and 112 at 10. Centring and the border running to all four edges are why.

The other three graders

Beckett has recorded 1,107 copies and reports 66 at gem level, SGC 735 with two, and CGC 128 with none.

That Beckett figure needs the same caution every card in this set needs. Beckett counts its Pristine 10 and its 9.5 together, so 66 is not a count of tens - it is tens plus half-grades. Read as a rate it gives 6.0 per cent against PSA's 1.6, which makes Beckett look far more generous than it is. Without the grade-by-grade split we cannot say how the 66 divides, so this page does not pretend to.

CGC has never awarded this card a gem in 128 copies.

Two auction houses, one card

Twenty-five sales are on record, eleven at Heritage and fourteen at Goldin. That mix is unusual on this site and it lets us ask something most card pages cannot.

Three PSA 10s sold within nine months of 2024. Heritage took $3,960 in March and $3,360 in December. Goldin took $2,955 in October, between the two - about nineteen per cent below the Heritage average for the year.

One comparison is not a finding. But the PSA 9s point the same way: Heritage $234 in June 2024, Goldin $384 that October; Goldin $312 in March 2023 and $397 in January 2024, Heritage $216 in May 2021 and $427 in October 2025. That is noisy in both directions, which is the honest description.

So the 2024 PSA 10 spread is worth noting and not worth concluding from. Both houses sell this card, the results overlap, and anyone reading a single result as the market is reading one room on one afternoon.

The Beckett 9 and the PSA 9 swapped places

In February 2021 a Beckett 9 made $450 at Goldin. Three months later a PSA 9 made $216 at Heritage - less than half.

By 2026 it had reversed. A PSA 9 made $427 in October 2025; a Beckett 9 made $256 the following January.

Nothing about either card changed. What changed is which holder the market preferred, over five years, on the same grade of the same card.

And the top has moved

A PSA 10 made $7,625 at Heritage in May 2026, more than double anything it had fetched in 2024 and the highest figure on this card's record.

Meanwhile a PSA 8 made $52 at Goldin in February 2024, against $115 at Heritage in May 2021. The common grades got cheaper while the gem doubled - the same split this site found on the Ewing, two cards apart in the same set.

where to buy one

PSA 8 is the card most people should buy. There are 2,774 of them, recorded sales run between roughly $50 and $115, and it looks like the card you remember.

PSA 9, at 984 copies, has traded between $216 and $427 across five years with no clear direction. It is the sensible stretch.

PSA 10 is a different market and has moved sharply. A hundred and twelve exist, three sold in 2024 between $2,955 and $3,960, and one made $7,625 in May 2026.

Do not read Beckett's gem figure as a count of tens. Beckett reports 66 gems on this card, which combines its Pristine 10 with its 9.5, and the two are not the same object or the same price.

Watch which house you are bidding in. Both Heritage and Goldin sell this card regularly, and in 2024 the three PSA 10 results split with the Goldin sale lowest. That is one year and one grade, so treat it as a reason to check both rather than a rule.

At a 1.80 per cent gem rate you should expect about one 10 in every fifty-six raw cards submitted. That makes this the seventh hardest card in the set to gem and a poor bet for speculative grading.

Counterfeiting in this set concentrates on the Jordan and the Barkley. No fakes of this card are documented.

what to check before you buy

Check centring on both sides. It is the usual reason a 1986 Fleer card grades below expectation and it is why this one gems at under two per cent.

Read the red, white and blue border along all four edges. Colour runs to the edge on every side, so a chip shows immediately as white.

Look for print snow and surface specks under angled light. They are common across the set and are usually what separates a 9 from a 10 on a card that otherwise looks clean.

Check the back for gum residue or wax staining. Packs held twelve cards, one sticker and a stick of gum, and the gum sat against the top card of the stack.

Read the label for a qualifier before you read the grade.

If the label says Beckett, read the number rather than the word gem. A BGS 9.5 and a BGS Pristine 10 are different cards at different prices and get counted together in published gem rates.
